The Philippine Blog Awards organizers and RockEd Philippines are working together to help the victims of Typhoon Ondoy. Everyone is invited to drop off relief goods during the PBA Luzon event on October 9:
These donations will be collected at the lobby of the PETA-Phinma Theater before the program begins. The collected donations will be turned over to RockEd for distribution to victims of the recent typhoon.
With this year’s theme being “One Blogging Nation”, the spirit of Bayanihan through this blogging event and community is stronger and more relevant than ever. Stay tuned for donation drive announcements in the upcoming Visayas and Mindanao events.

Philippine Blog Awards 2009 releases new video, “Jingle”
The Philippine Blog Awards 2009’s first teaser video was a little skit entitled “Blogger”. Now we have a fun little “Jingle” featuring the Philippines’ most famous blogs. There’s even a little nod towards WordPress at the beginning. Check out the lyrics:

And don’t forget, catch the Flippish livestream on October 9 at 6:00 pm!
Catch the Philippine Blog Awards 2009 livestream
Can’t make it to the Philippine Blog Awards on October 9? Flippish will be streaming the awards night live on its website. And it won’t be a delayed, low-quality stream, but something that will rival TV productions:
This event is dappled in awesomeness. We’re trying something new this year — a live stream coverage of the event over the Internet courtesy of Flippish. If you’re expecting fixed point webcam quality work with a 30 second delay, well we’re out to prove you wrong. The live coverage has similar production value as on television, except that everything will be streamed via a dedicated line over the Internet. For those who will be unable to join us on that day, the live stream is actually the best way to follow the awards night.
Enjoy this teaser video too:
Philippine Blog Awards 2009 nominations extended

Deadline for nominations in this year’s Philippine Blog Awards was supposedly yesterday, but that has been extended to August 21, Friday, at 11:59 pm Philippine time.
Again, you can either nominate your own blogs or recommend someone to enter the awards. You’ve got another week to go through the eligibility rules, awards categories, criteria, and process, so participate now!
Philippine Blog Awards 2009 nominations open, goes nationwide
What’s the single most important step to get the Philippine Blog Awards rolling? The nominations, of course. The process seems a lot simpler this year, but there are still a good number of guidelines for eligibility you have to keep in mind. Deadline is on August 13 at 11:59 pm, Philippine time.
But that’s just the start of the exciting new features in this year’s prestigious blogging event: aside from a swanky site redesign, the blog awards will take place not just in Luzon (October 9) but also in Visayas (October 17) and Mindanao (October 24). Looks like this year’s theme is to unite the three main islands of the Philippines under “one blogging nation”. This shouldn’t be so difficult to do as blogging groups are more active than ever down south!
Philippine Blog Awards 2009 on October 9
That’s right folks, preparations for this year’s Philippine Blog Awards have begun and two things are now set in stone: the date, October 9, and the venue, Megatent Events Venue (30 Meralco Ave., Bgy. Ugong, Pasig City).
For those who missed last year’s event, check out the night’s highlights courtesy of Buddy Gancenia:

Karlo has gained recognition in several different awards, from an interview in a local newspaper, to joining the ranks of the top probloggers and influential blogs in the country, to winning the best technology blog award in the 2008 Philippine Blog Awards.
Readers of PinoyBlogero will also enjoy his unique brand of comics sprinkled across the different posts (it’s even branched out to a separate blog, BlogComics.net).

Philippine Blog Awards and blogging covered by mainstream media

Also check the links in the post for more coverage by other stations including GMA, QTV, and TV5. Who says the “old” and “new” media can’t get along?
Pinoy WordPress Theme: Una

Una is a 2-column, slightly grungy WordPress theme created by Dino Latoga. It won the best free custom theme in the 2008 Philippine Blog Awards.
The front page shows the latest post with it’s accompanying large graphic image which helps attract readers more than the usual large text titles. Below the latest post is a list of the 3 other recent posts with each post accompanied by a nice thumbnail image. Each section title is supported by a nice subtitle. The comments and trackbacks are divided to produce a clean and organized look.
It’s widget- and Gravatar-ready and requires Twitter Tools and the Advanced Excerpt Plugin, so be sure to read the instructions first.

Register now! If you haven’t already, be sure to register for a slot immediately. There are only 200 available and they’re sure to run out soon.
PBA press conference held. The Philippine Blog Awards organizers (Noemi Dado, Juned Sonido, Gail Villanueva, Jayvee Fernandez) together with Blog Bank met with the press today to officially announce the event. See coverage from GMANews.TV and Yehey! Lifestyle.
Philippine Blog Awards attendee registration opens
Wondering how you can watch the Philippine Blog Awards live? We finally have an answer. Organizers have opened registrations for blogger attendees. There will be 200 available slots. Take note, this is for bloggers only.
Due to venue limitations, we are only opening 200 slots for bloggers at the moment. Once all slots have been filled out, we’ll post an announcement on this blog. We’ll also announce it should there be additional seats available.
Voting opens for the Bloggers’ Choice Award at the 2008 Philippine Blog Awards
The Philippine Blog Awards 2008 has just announced the nominees for the Bloggers’ Choice Award and the voting has opened. The process has changed since last year:
- You need to be a Filipino blogger with a blog, which “must be established at least three (3) months from today with a minimum of 10 posts.”
- You need to pick one nominee and write a blog post about why he/she deserves to win. “Yes, you can vote for your own blog. And no, you cannot vote for a blog that is not on the list of official Bloggers’ Choice Award nominees.”
- You need to include the list of sponsors in your blog post.
- You need to submit your blog post here.
So why would you go through all the trouble of doing that? Every blog post counts as one raffle entry (but one post per blogger only). Prizes to that raffle will be announced soon.
Finally, congratulations to the nominees:

Philippine Blog Awards 2008 date and venue announced
Update: Here’s the official announcement at the Philippine Blog Awards blog.
We’re getting closer and closers to one of the biggest Philippine blogging events of the year, and it just so happens it’s also in September, like WordCamp Philippines. Yes, the Philippine Blog Awards night will take place on September 21, 2008, at the Coral B room of One Esplanade (near SM Mall of Asia and Manila Bay).
Here’s a video announcement and tour of the venue:
A few minor notes on this event: the date was originally August 30, but because it was announced that the Eraserheads reunion concert will be held that night, PBA 2008 had to be rescheduled. Also, the website has been migrated to a new server, so you may be seeing the default WordPress theme instead of the snazzier design.
Philippine Blog Awards 2008 Nominations Now Open

This year’s Philippine Blog Awards draws one step closer as the nominations have finally opened. Last time we checked, it’s been moved to July. Now, we have a whopping 36 categories under three divisions: the Best Blog Division, the Best Single Blog Post Division, and the Special Awards.
Best Blog Division Categories and Best Blog Post Division Categories
- Technology
- Travel
- Entertainment
- Personal
- Food & Beverage
- Family & Living
- News & Media
- Business/Entrepreneur
- Sports
- Hobby/Recreation
- Fashion & Lifestyle

- Culture & Arts
- Commentary (Social, Political, Science & History)
- Videocast/Podcast
Special Awards Categories
- Bloggers’ Choice Award
- Best Blog Design
- Best OFW Blog
- Best Free Custom Theme
- Best Blog Plugin/Extension
- Best Network Blogger
From the looks of things, the awards committee has done well in representing as many blogging topics as possible. Descriptions of the awards categories can be found on their respective pages.
Now before you hop off and go on a nomination spree, be sure to check out the criteria for eligbility first. Perhaps the most important one is the minimum age of the blogs (4 months before April 2008) and posts (created during April 2007-2008, maximum of 5 posts per blog).
I know it’s still pretty early to consolidate an ample amount of funds, but I can’t wait to find out what the prizes are—both for the winners and the attendees (raffle!). Not to mention just how swanky this year’s awards night will be. People were supposed to dress in semi-formal to formal attire last year. Will there be a red carpet this time? Fashion police? An afterparty?
Okay, I’m getting ahead of myself. Go show your support by nominating your favorite blogs, blog posts, and bloggers, then write about it on your own blog!
2008 Philippine Blog Awards Moved to July
The 2008 Philippine Blog Awards got off to an exciting and early start, but we haven’t seen any updates since January—until now.
We’ll have to wait until July (last year it was on March 31st at the RCBC Plaza Auditorium) before having another awards night for Filipino bloggers, but it’s only because the committee has to find an ideal venue. Any guesses? NBC Tent? IMAX Theater?
Read the full announcement here.
