WordPress.com goes real-time with PubSubHubbub

March 5, 2010 | No Comments Yet

PubSubHubbub or PuSH is a new protocol that makes publishing go real-time: instead of readers like Google Reader or Netvibes checking a website RSS or Atom feed every so often for new content, PubSubHubbub “pushes” the new content into the stream as soon as it is published. That feature has been enabled on all WordPress.com blogs.

WordPress.org users can also enjoy PubSubHubbub with the PuSHPress plugin available in the Plugins Directory. This turns your WP blog into a hub of its own that can send updates directly, without going through another hub.

May 1 is RSS Day

RSS Awareness Day

May 1 may be more famous in the Philippines as Labor Day, but on the other side of the world, a campaign to raise awareness about RSS is also happening today.

As bloggers we should have an idea of what RSS is. It stands for Really Simple Syndication and is a feed format “used to deliver information from websites and pages that get updated regularly”. To read more about it, simply visit RSSDay.org for some helpful demos.

If you’re an expert at it already, be sure to visit the Spread the word! page and tell your blog readers about this awesome technology they may not be even aware of! Technically, RSS is just one of several formats for your blog feed, but as this campaign shows, RSS is clearly the most popular one.

Happy RSS Day everyone!
